Polka Dot Bake Shop has been in business for over four years and has established itself as a destination for fresh, natural, made-from-scratch, upscale baked goods. In doing so the company’s reputation of quality and unique offering had surpassed the store’s image and décor. Along with social and brand growth, customer activity had pushed the limits of usable functionality and the demands of the physical space had changed.

I was invited to propose a solution that would streamline the customer experience and re-enforce the Polka Dot Bake Shop brand experience.

We designed and installed a décor and graphics treatment that conveyed creativity and eclectic charm. Elements were chosen to give a sense of vintage nostalgia and artistic flair. Use of salvaged and repurposed materials created interesting and unusual textures and finishes as well as demonstrated an Earth friendly approach. Art inspired treatments tell a subtle whimsy.

We also reworked the space plan to improve the activity flow and provide distinct task stations. Areas to included seating for four; a casual setting for two; a kids table and chairs; a self-serve coffee station; display counter behind glass; POS station and custom order station.

To keep the total budget manageable, I engineered cost effective solutions that reused existing pieces and used client supplied labor for specific parts of the project.

The construction took place outside of normal operating hours. We deconstructed the old beginning at six pm Saturday and had the new look in place by six am Tuesday morning. All elements were created or up-fitted off site and brought into the space during the one-time installation.
